Air traffic controller training

Civilian controllers are usually trained in stages: rating training in the classroom and on a simulator, then training at the unit where they will work.

The employer, or a training organisation it appoints, runs that programme. The length of the course and any pay during training are set by that employer. They are not a global standard.

A student is not yet a licensed controller at the unit. The endorsement for the unit comes after the local training is completed. What the services and ratings refer to is covered under Careers.
